Microsoft´s Windows 10 Photos App to Get Facial Recognition Powered Search

-

The feature has been already available via the OneDrive web-interface and will be added to the  App in a future update.

The Photos app on Windows 10 is more than adequate in helping users organize and edit photos, but it's lacking some smarter tools that are readily available on the OneDrive website – namely automatic detection of faces and places.

If a report from WinBeta is accurate, such features apparently will be heading to the Photos app. The update will allow users to search photos “based on the people in them, the places they were taken as well as customized tags directly via the Photos app.”

What this means is that pictures of certain people will be categorized by the app in the appointed albums – and the same goes for pics with metadata locations. It's no secret that smartphones have practically replaced digital cameras for many people, so if this sorting function can be done automatically, it will make managing the ever-growing personal library of pics and videos less of a chore.

Other additions to the app that users can expect to get include the ability to draw directly on the photos, as well as new filters and effects. The new features are also said to get included in the upcoming Windows 10 Redstone update we expect in June. They should also bring a wider Continuum support, traditional removal, and animated start tiles.
