Microsoft’s Windows Team Waxes Lyrical about Redstone Upgrade

-

employees are talking up the features we can expect to see with the update, which is expected to be rolled out in June.

We have already reported some of the new goodies we can expect through the Redstone first phase (rs1) and various Microsoft have taken to twitter to help ramp up the excitement.

Some of the superlatives thrown out include saying customers are going to “FREAK OUT” and that the new features are going to “CHANGE EVERYTHING”.

Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring are already handling the latest Redstone development build, but at the moment Microsoft is underlying the fundamentals of the update at the moment, saving major feature enhancements for later.

In fact, any of the big changes to be made through the Redstone update are likely to be reserved for the major rollout in June, although Microsoft should be detailing the features landing in the rs1 build during the 2016 BUILD Conference next month. Rich Turner, Microsoft's Senior Program Manager on the Windows team, said users should be patient and will be rewarded:

Redmond has been beefing up Windows 10 features in preview builds, with the next update set to add much requested extensions to the Edge browser. Scott Hanselman, Principal Program Manager and Community Architect on the Azure Application Platform and Tools group, says the new features coming to Redstone go beyond that and are game changing:

The Redstone update is so vast that Microsoft decided early that it would be split into two phases, rs1, which comes this June, and rs2, which was targeted for the end of the year. The company decided earlier this month to push back the launch date of phase 2 until the Spring of 2017, making ready for new Microsoft hardware.

Of the new features expected in Redstone, it is so far unclear which will be reserved for the rs1 upgrade and which will arrive next year. Luckily BUILD is just around the corner and Microsoft is expected to detail its Redstone roadmap in full, including information about all new features arriving with the build.
