Microsoft Updates Its Arrow Launcher for Android

-

has released an update to , its app launcher that went live last year.

The update to version 1.1.2 adds more material animations and improved performance.

In addition, the update improves the UX for adding an app to the apps page, brings back the App Info button and adds back pagination for the Windows Page. Microsoft also promises an improvement of App performance by 20 percent.

Arrow Launcher was released by the Microsoft Garage last October. The application launcher for Android is part of Microsoft's cross-platform development efforts and followed up Android apps like Next Lock Screen, and Bing Torque, an Android Wear search assistant.

Arrow Launcher makes it easier to organize and manage applications for your Android device, sorting apps based on usage. It also has a customizable dock — accessed by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, a familiar motion for iOS users — that allows access to frequently used apps, airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and more.

Microsoft Garage, an internal research and development group that explores experimental projects that may be worth future development resources, has numerous apps on its workbench that can be test-driven for free.

Among the most recent Android releases are:

  • Hub Keyboard, a clipboard and contact management app;
  • Sprightly, a catalog and E-card creating tool;
  • Kaizala, a resource tracking app;
  • Mimicker Alarm, which prompts the user to perform a task in order to dismiss the alarm (ideal for chronic snooze-button pushers);
  • Connections, an app for managing contacts.

All of these apps are free downloads from Google Play.
