Microsoft Windows 10 Mobile Coming to Older Lumia Phones next Month According to Vodafone

-

The amount of 's rocking the platform is still really limited, with only newly launched handsets enjoying the build.

Microsoft has promised numerous of its existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices will receive eventually, but no update has arrived yet.

Vodafone Europe has said that many of the Windows Phone 8.1 devices it carries will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile during the week March 7 to 13.

Redmond previously said the Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 (1 GB RAM), Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930 would be moving to the newest build.

Vodafone carries the Lumia's 535, 635, 735, 830, 930 and 1520, which will all be receiving the upgrade over the air (OTA). The network's Italian division confirmed that the update is genuine, although warned the push is in stages, so some devices will get the upgrade later than others.

Of course, there have been plenty of false dawns for users of older Lumia handsets, with Microsoft announcing a number of times that the update would arrive, only for the date to pass with no upgrade. The company originally pegged an official Windows 10 Mobile roll out for the end of 2015, but was forced to put it back to early 2016.

Just last month Microsoft Mexico took to its Facebook page to announce the Win 10 Mobile update would be landing on devices February 29. The date came and went with no launch of the new build, so we are of course skeptical about Vodafone's announcement.

It seems official, and the carrier (the largest in the world) is obviously more in the know that most, but we will approach this with caution until that update settles on older Lumia smartphones.
