The Australian company is giving its fixed broadband customers a free subscription to Microsoft’s cloud storage service, described as the most of any network in the country.
Customers who want to take advantage of the free OneDrive storage can do so by heading to Telstra’s 24×7 mobile app or by visiting to their user account on the company’s website.
Telstra announced the deal through a blog post issued by the company’s director of Mass Market Mobility, who said the deal is “the largest amount of free file storage available on any Australian network“.
Microsoft’s OneDrive storage service is compatible cross platform (Android, iOS, Windows) and across form factors, PC, tablets, and smartphones.
Just last week, Microsoft issued a new update for the OneDrive application for Windows, adding some subtle new features to the service. Among the new functionality added to OneDrive in the recent upgrade included faster background uploads, an easier unlocking method, and easier navigation to files and content.
Redmond has had a rocky few months in regards to OneDrive, after the company retracted a promise to give unlimited storage to OneDrive and OneDrive Business users. Microsoft instead offered those running Office 365 Home, Personal, and University more than 1TB of cloud storage for one year.
More controversy followed as OneDrive and Office 365 customers realized Microsoft was actually capping the storage capacity at 1TB, something Redmond claimed was an accident:
“Some OneDrive customers may have been prematurely migrated to a 1TB storage plan. Data stored with OneDrive remains secure during this process, and we’re working hard to revert those users back to their original plan as soon as possible. All Office 365 users with over 1TB of storage will be able to keep that storage limit for at least one year as previously announced.” Please stay tuned to the OneDrive blog for future storage plan updates.”
