Microsoft apologizes for withdrawal of Red Dead Redemption Backward Compatibility for Xbox One

-

Rockstar's popular western adventure game was playable on the last weekend just for some hours, until shut down access to the game.

Released back in 2010, Red Dead Redemption has been made briefly available by Microsoft's backward compatibility service, but then withdrawn again within just a few hours.

The move has led to a fair amount of distress among fans.

Xbox Live director of programming, Larry Hyrb has published an an apology on Reddit, explaining the reasons for the takedown.

“Microsoft tests all games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles. Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon.”

As Hyrb also explains, Red Dead Redemption has not been the only game title removed from the online store, since Halo Wars, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 have been unlisted as well.

Microsoft has blocked the access to these games by issuing a mandatory but non-existent update for them, with the result users cannot open them anymore. As Microsoft just recently announced, thatthey won´t announce coming backward compatible titles anymore ,and that the games would simply show up in the user's digital library.

There is no word on whether Red Dead Redemption will be made available for Xbox One users later on. What we do know however is that Rockstar is going to release a sequel to its populaer Wild West game later this year.
