EA reveals undisclosed Xbox One sales figures

-

Game Publisher Electronic Arts has conducted an internal research to estimate the combined user base of PS4 and , revealing that there may be around 19 million Xbox One users worldwide.

During a financial conference, EA´s Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen revealed that the combined user base of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was 55 million.

Thanks to the available PS4 sales figures published by Sony who sold more than 35.9 million PS4 consoles till date, it´s just a mathematical deduction you need to estimate 19 million as the undisclosed number for Xbox One sales.

Here is what EA´s Blake Jorgensen had to say in a financial call with investors.

“I think our business seems to be operating pretty consistent as it has been over the last couple of years. The console purchases are up through the end of calendar year '15.

Our estimate is 55 million units out there which has exceeded virtually everyone's forecast for the year and now almost 50 per cent higher than previous console cycle so, all of that is very-very positive, all the gameplay we're seeing and the engagement and things like Ultimate Team we're seeing is positive.

We're just conscious of the fact that there's a lot of storm clouds out there, we want to be careful that we don't get ahead of ourselves or the economy in our forecast for the business and that's what you're hearing.”

As we reported back in October, has stopped reporting Xbox One sales last year, possibly to avoid the ongoing negative press when compared to Sony and other competitors. Instead Microsoft only discloses usage for which is experiencing strong growth.

In Microsoft´s just published FY2016 Q2 earnings release the company reports a five percent year-over-year increase for its gaming business, generating 48 million US Dollars. Microsoft´s premium Xbox Live membership platform has grown a strong 30 percent in the same period.

However, the company did also report a nine percent drop in hardware sales, which could be pinned on the higher volume units sold year-on-year offset by the lowered prices.
