Critical BitLocker encryption bug found in Windows 10 November Update

-

On the November update of , was deemed to carry a new bug which is still not fixable as of today. This might be one of the reasons has decided against offering it via its Media Creation Tool.

BitLocker will surely not run if a clean installation of Windows 10 with the November update is done according to a thread in the Microsoft forums. However, the software will be functional if it was enabled in the RTM version before updating to the November update of Windows 10.

Last weekend, Microsoft unnoticeably removed the November update standalone download. While the company told ZDNet that the removal was due to a policy shift, users suppose Microsoft pulled the update because of an installation bug.

“The November update was originally available via the MCT tool, but we've decided that future installs should be through Windows Update. People can still download Windows 10 using the MCT tool if they wish. The November update will be delivered via Windows Update.

Microsoft has not pulled the Windows 10 November 10 update. The company is rolling out the November update over time – if you don't see it in Windows Update, you will see it soon.”

According to the Microsoft forum thread, disabling and then attempting to re-enable BitLocker after the November update will fail. User dd-drahnier reports that the issue persists with an ISO based installation of Windows 10 Build 10586.

“I did a clean – ISO based – install of th2_10586.0 on a freshly unwrapped Intel Z3700 Series Atom tablet. Although, after successfully installing Windows, Bitlocker was indeed not enabled and did not seem to auto-encrypt the system drive, I got Bitlocker working using the TPM Management Console (tpm.msc) and one or two Bitlocker (manage-bde) commands. It is working just fine now, but I have not tried to disable/re-enable .”

As of today, the problem about BitLocker's encryption on the November update still remains unresolved. Users are individually figuring out different ways in finding a loophole to this bug and use it as a tool for the mild recovery of fixing the problem.

The main solution found to get away with BitLocker encryption problem would be to avoid clean installation of this software through the November update. Windows 10 users who did the November update and are now facing similar problems are on the wait for Microsoft's response for the said errors.
