Project 2016 brings significant updates to Project Professional, Project Pro for Office 365 and Project Online. Major improvements have been made in Resource Management Planning features with enhancements such as new Resource Engagements, a brand new experience for resource managers, and Capacity heat maps.
Microsoft has published a summary of the most important changes to be found in Project 2016.
The project management tool also comes with an improved timeline feature which offers “multiple timelines, each with different start and end dates, representing a user-defined set of tasks and milestones.”
The Clippy-like “Tell Me” helping tool which allows to find specific options with keyword searches has also been added to Project 2016.
Project 2016 also improves the capacities of Office extensions which now have full Read/Write access to the project you are working on.
All the new Project 2016 features are also rolled out immediately to Project Pro for Office 365 and Project Online. The new resource management features will be available to on-premises customers in the spring of 2016 together with Project Server 2016.
