Game DVR: Windows 10´s new built-in screen recorder grabs and cuts screencasts natively

has a new hidden tool  to can record videos from your screen. We show you how it saves your screen as video and how to cut the clips lateron.

1. Activate the Windows 10 Screen Recorder

Windows 10 Game DVR is an app that´s always active in the background. Just press the Win + G hotkey to launch its interface. After pressing this Hotkey, a small movable toolbar shows up for some seconds.

When you don´t use any button, Windows 10 Game DVR dissapears after a while.

2. Start and stop screen recording

Click the red button to start a . The passed recording time will be counted in the Game DVR Toolbar. Alternatively you can also just click the camera symbol to take a screenshot.

Once it disappears, recording time will be shown with a tiny movable widget.

3. Cutting your Windows 10 screen recording using the XBOX App

Once your Windows 10 Game DVR screencast is finished you can cut the clip easily with the Xbox up. Just press the Xbox symbol on the Game DVR toolbar.

The will list all of your Windows 10 screen recordings sorted by date. Select the clip you want to cut and then click Trim.

On the timeline, set start and endpoint and then click Trim original or Save a copy.

4. Locate screen recording with Windows 10 File Explorer

The Windows 10 Game DVR tool saves all screen recordings in your user account folder in VideosCaptures.

6. Advanced settings

Here you can choose to Record games in the background and define what Windows 10 should do when running on battery power or on a wireless display.

TIP: A nice bonus feature is the Record the last: XX seconds / minutes option. When activated, Windows 10 Game DVR will just keep the selected timerange and automatically delete previous stuff. This saves disk space and you don´t need to cut so much off later.
