Windows 9 Start Menu Demo small winbuzzer

Some of you might have seen 's short glimpse of the coming start menu of Windows 9 at BUILD 2014. They really didn't go into detail though and if you don't see the short clip of their keynote again and again, you might miss some of the features. We have extracted the short demo-scene for your convenience and sum-up the shown features of the start menu. From what we know so far, this will be the feature-set of the Windows 9 start menu.

  • Live Tiles: The new Start Menu will show live tiles in the same way than the start screen. You will be able to use all three sizes.
  • Mixed View: The left panel will show folders, desktop apps and Windows Store apps in a combined list.
  • Drag & Drop: The Windows 9 Start Menu will support drag&drop of tiles to rearrange them like on the start screen. It is also possible to add a live-tile via drag&drop from a symbol from the left panel to the tiles-section.
  • Dynamic Size: The start menu auto-adjusts its size depending on the number of entries in the left panel or on how many tiles are present on the right side.
  • Search Bar: Like in Windows 7 the Start Menu will have a search bar. Search results can be expected to come from both the system and Bing, like in Windows 8.1.
  • Power Button: Also the power Button will be back. The little arrow in the demo indicates it will offer all the other options like logoff, standby, reboot etc.

Here you can watch the start menu as it was shown by Microsoft in full screen beauty:
